Painting artisans:
Gaia Amore's leather partner has four artisans painting our products with the unique European paint in two locations. Two artisans are located in Sunderparah, Uttar Pradesh and the other two are located in Idgah, Uttar Pradesh, India.
1. Payal whose 22 years old and Priyanka whose 20, have any children. They've both been working in the leather trade for 7and 6 years respectively and painting leather for brands is their primary source of income. While they're both young, their prospects in life are far and few between. Barely earning enough to make ends meet, they struggle financially. Neither of them having received a proper education, they dream of completing school, earning a more effective income which will allow them to take care of their parents and siblings and eventually build a home for themselves and their loved ones.
2. Geetika is 48 years old and has been working in the leather trade for 29 years and Pratik is 25 and has been laboring for 9 years, they both face the same financial challenges. Shortage of work has prevented them from earning a wage which has been able to afford them education, a comfortable living and proper nutrition. They both dream of more stable work which would allow for higher earning potential and opportunity to provide for their families.
Gaia Amore is giving 3% of every sale to the artisans for the products that they worked on. As a commitment, we are working with our leather partner to ensure that our artisans are helped however they most need it and we are able to begin impacting the lives of these communities by investing in their past, present and future.
Carving:
Gaia Amore's leather partner has 12 artisans hand carving our leather products into the beautiful designs you see and love. We have six young artisans all located in Dargah Shareef, Uttar Pradesh, India all between the ages of 20 and 32.
1. Waseem aged 32 has been working in the trade for 8 years and this is his main source of income.
2. Rehan is 22 and is responsible for his aging father, Farooqe.
3. Sharukh is 21 years old and is responsible for his father Zroor.
4. Faisal aged 20 is responsible for his father Tasleem.
5. Suhail is 20 years old and is reponsible for his father Jamal.
6. Shakir aged 21 is responsible for his father Niyamat.
Our remaining carving artisans are located in villages throughout Uttar Pradesh, India.
7. Rehan aged 18 located in has been working in the leather trade since 10 years of age. He dreams of stable income and due to lack of stable work, has difficulty making ends meet every day.
8. Sharukh aged 17 and located in Jajmau, has also been working in the leather trade since the age of 10 years old. Not having completed his education, he dreams of a job which will afford him comforable living situation and the ability to provide for his family. His father Zhoor, is dependent on his son to provide for the family.
9. Faisal, whose aged 29 living in Asharatabad, has been carving leather for the past 8 years. He too was unable to finish his education and dreams of stable work where he's able to save up to support his family and earn enough to build a home.
10. Suhail aged 18 from Shitlabazaar has been working carving leather since he was 12 years old. His family was not able to afford his school tuition, so he began working to support his family and acquire additional income. At this point in his life, he would like to have stable income so that he'd be able to save up and support his family, to build a home where they can live comfortably.
11. Shakir aged 23 and living in Hindustan Compound, has only been working as a carver for the past 2 years but this is his full time employment. He faces the same challenges as his peers and would like stable income where he can depend on his work to feed and shelter his family.
12. Fahim aged 44 and Farhat aged 42 have been working in this trade for 15 and 7 years respectively. Both living in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, they are among the oldest of the artisans and the oldest artisans carving the leather. None, the less, the have families that they need to take care of and are forced to scrape by, having difficulties making ends meet. They too would like to see more business, stable business that gives them an opportunity to depend on their work, to be able to save for their families and leave something behind for them.
